TFA Leadership Development Opportunities for Teachers and Leaders

In addition to creating these resources for teachers, Teach For America New Mexico has great local and national professional development opportunities for teachers and leaders.  Here are a few we recommend that are open to all educators:

Rural School Leadership Academy

2022 Application Deadline is Feb 21, and the Application will re-open in January 2023

Develop the knowledge and skills necessary for school leadership roles while building a powerful network of aspiring school leaders in rural communities. The Rural School Leadership Academy is a yearlong fellowship for up to 50 participants made up of  three streams of aspiring and current school leaders:

  • Stream 1: Classroom teachers who are beginning to explore school leadership roles.
  • Stream 2: Mid-level school-based leaders preparing for school principal roles.
  • Stream 3: School principals focused on building and sustaining their leadership.

School Leaders of Color Conference

2022 conference will be held virtually, Feb 2 – 3. This conference is happens February of each year

School and system level leaders are a critical lever in impacting the outcomes for our kids. They have the profound impact of being able to both positively influence students directly and create the institutional conditions that make schools and systems more equitable at scale. School and system leaders who identify as Black, Native/Indigenous, and People of Color have a particularly crucial role in the quest for educational equity, and Teach For America’s network of school and systems leaders is representationally more diverse than the national average.  Attendees will access strong professional development, and inspire and connect with one another in a space not found elsewhere in the educational ecosystem.

Participants will meet for 2 hours each week. This program is open to all school and system leaders, including non TFA alum. There is no cost. PowerHour5 will be held virtually 4 times throughout the year with cohorts starting in–November 2021, January 2022, March 2022, and May 2022.
