Want to Teach in New Mexico?

There’s a good chance you can! To get most New Mexico teaching licenses, you have to get or have a bachelor’s degree, pass a background check and get trained through an approved teacher training program. Native language and culture teaching certificates and vocational teaching licenses are also available and do not require a bachelors degree.

Most New Mexico colleges have teacher training programs. There are two types: Traditional (Bachelors) and Alternative (Graduate) Programs

Get a New Mexico Teaching License

Before you teach, you need to fill out a licensure application with NM’s Public Education Department. You also need to send transcripts and get a background check.

Get a Teaching Job

Check out district job boards and NMPED’s Interactive Recruitment Map. Do direct outreach to schools via phone, in person, and through substitute teaching or volunteering.
